DeSean Jackson has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for his performance in the Eagles’ first three games this year.
Jackson, a second-year pro from Cal, averaged 22.2 yards on four punt returns, including an 85-yarder for a touchdown against the Panthers on opening day. It was the second-longest punt return in Eagles history.
Jackson also ranks ninth in the NFL with 259 receiving yards, and his 21.6 recieving average is best among all NFL players with 10 or more catches.

The Eagles aren’t giving up hope of having quarterback Donovan McNabb on the field for Sunday’s home opener against the Saints.
McNabb made a brief appearance on the practice field Thursday afternoon but didn’t take part in any drills. He fractured his rib on a touchdown run late in the Eagles’ 38-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers last weekend.
“Donovan is working very hard,” Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. “You know Donovan, he’s doing everything in his power to get back out there, make it to this game. He’s played with a broken ankle, a broken sternum and all these things. Donovan is a very tough man.”

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb didn’t practice Wednesday because of his cracked rib, and it still isn’t known if he will play this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. “He’s making some progress,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said of McNabb. “It’s too early to say anything right now. We’ll just see how he does here over the next couple of days.”
Kevin Kolb took snaps with the starters Wednesday. Reid again made it clear that Kolb will start against the Saints on Sunday if McNabb can’t play.
Jeff Garcia, picked up by the Eagles on Tuesday, would be Kolb’s backup. He will be the No. 3 emergency quarterback if McNabb starts.
Michael Vick and Garcia will share snaps with the scout team this week. Vick isn’t eligible to play until next week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Philadelphia Eagles are changing their starting middle linebacker two weeks before the start of the regular season.
Omar Gaither is taking over for Joe Mays. Mays had replaced Stewart Bradley, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. Gaither was the starter in 2007.
“I’m going home,” Gaither said Sunday. “I feel like Dorothy. I didn’t click my heels, but I got down on my knees and prayed a lot.”
Gaither had been bothered by a sore knee throughout training camp, but returned to practice on a limited basis last week and was out with the starting unit at practice Sunday. He will remain in that role leading up to the season opener Sept. 13 at Carolina.”I’m here to stay,” he said. “I’m not coming out this time.”
After Bradley’s injury, the Eagles made Mays the starter. Mays was a sixth-round pick out of North Dakota State last year. Last week, rookie seventh-round pick Moise Fokou started to get more reps. Now, it’s back to Gaither.

Michael Vick jogged off the field after another long practice and headed straight for the air-conditioned comfort indoors. All that extra work could be paying off. Vick’s teammates said the quarterback looks ready to play when the Philadelphia Eagles host Jacksonville on Thursday.
Coach Andy Reid is expected to say Tuesday whether Vick will make his Eagles debut in an preseason home game against the Jaguars.
Vick is eligible to play the next two preseason games, but not in the regular season. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by no later than Week 6 (Oct. 18-19).

Here’s a scenario that must have defensive coordinators scrambling to their chalkboards: Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick on the field together.
Though Vick has spent his three practice days with the Philadelphia Eagles playing quarterback, it’s more likely he’ll see most of his action in a nontraditional offense. With his speed and powerful arm, Vick is an ideal candidate to run a variation of the Wildcat formation.
Eagles coach Andy Reid isn’t revealing any secrets, but McNabb said Monday he wouldn’t mind if Vick took some of his snaps. “I wouldn’t have a problem with it if it’s helping us win,” McNabb said.
If Vick lines up behind center, McNabb won’t necessarily be watching from the sideline. “I’ll be a receiver. I might be a tight end. I might be a running back,” he said with a smile. “You never know where I’ll be.”

It’s been nearly four years since Terrell Owens was a member of the Eagles, but the wide receiver says he still misses Philly.
“I do miss you guys,” he said during a Friday interview with ESPN 950’s Mike Missanelli. “I had a year and a half of my best career there in Philly. It was short-lived but I did enjoy the fans there. They were fanatics. I know when I came to that stadium and I drove up to that stadium, they got me psyched, they got me ready to play ball. I’m very fortunate to have played for that organization.”
