When the Philadelphia Eagles acquired Michael Vick, it was met with a lot of publicity. Much of that publicity was negative. Seen as a criminal, many did not believe that he deserved a chance. And last season, many thought that Philadelphia was not properly using him.
With a hefty salary and a new heap of trouble, many Eagles fans are wishing for his release. There are other serviceable backup quarterbacks on the free agent market. However, the Eagles should not release Vick. What if Kolb gets injured? What if he stinks up the joint? Vick at least has experience at starting quarterback, even if he has more recent experience in prison.
He is exciting, and is still a fun player to watch. Yes, football is not all fun, but fun may be a huge factor in the upcoming season if the Eagles played mediocre football like they may. Vick provides excitement, and now that he has playing time under his belt, and a full training camp to prepare, the Eagles should not pull the trigger and release Vick. If they stuck with him this long, there is no point in ending it now.

The Philadelphia Eagles expect NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to issue a ruling on Michael Vick’s possible full re-instatement before Saturday’s mandatory league-wide cutdown to the 53-man roster, league sources told ESPN.
Under the conditional re-instatement imposed in July, Vick may not begin playing in regular-season games until Goodell’s notification, which must come by Week 6. But Eagles head coach Andy Reid and team president Joe Banner have been in weekly contact with Goodell, updating him on Vick’s behavior and progress, while also seeking from the commissioner a clearer understanding of when he will rule on Vick’s re-instatement.

Michael Vick jogged off the field after another long practice and headed straight for the air-conditioned comfort indoors. All that extra work could be paying off. Vick’s teammates said the quarterback looks ready to play when the Philadelphia Eagles host Jacksonville on Thursday.
Coach Andy Reid is expected to say Tuesday whether Vick will make his Eagles debut in an preseason home game against the Jaguars.
Vick is eligible to play the next two preseason games, but not in the regular season. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by no later than Week 6 (Oct. 18-19).

Michael Vick was under center, and Brian Westbrook lined up in the backfield. Brent Celek took his spot at tight end. In Vick’s ideal scenario, he’d be taking snaps with the Philadelphia Eagles’ first-team offense in a regular-season game, not just a routine preseason practice.
Yet that’s all it was. Vick ran the scout-team offense Tuesday, calling plays for Westbrook and other starters who are injured or recovering from injury and not ready to play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Michael Vick, shown here practicing Sunday, is taking it slow in his return to football with the Eagles. “Best scout team ever,” Celek said. In October and beyond, Vick could be taking snaps with the starters in a game that counts. “I don’t necessarily know where he’s going to fit in as a player, where he’s going to fit in this offense,” Westbrook said. The Eagles aren’t in a two-minute drill to find out.

Donovan McNabb took a knee on the grass and was joined to his right by Michael Vick.
Vick removed his helmet on a humid Sunday afternoon, smiling and laughing as McNabb cracked jokes to the delight of his Philadelphia Eagles teammates. At one point, McNabb threw himself on the ground in what was likely part of the punchline to a story that had Vick — somber and contrite two days earlier — grinning in the baking sun.
If animal activists want Vick treated as a social pariah, they won’t get any assistance inside the Eagles locker room. Vick is simply one of the boys — practicing plays, sprinting in the heat, and absorbing the hits of some good-natured ribbing.
