Anyone that tells you they know how the Eagles will fare this year is straight up lying. The uncertainty surrounding one of the youngest, unproven, yet talented rosters in recent history makes for a very anxious Eagles fan base, and that includes me. I’ve heard predictions on win totals ranging from 5 to 11, and I hate to say I’m one of those that thinks it will be a sub .500 year for the Birds. I’m sorry, I don’t see this team winning 10+ games, not in this division, anyway. Not with this schedule.
There is no doubt Kolb is ready to be a starting QB in the NFL, but there is plenty of doubt about whether the people up front can protect him. The story of this year’s training camp for the birds has been injuries, most notably to the offensive line. Kolb is already being thrown into the unenviable position of following in the footsteps of Philly’s best ever QB, and now he has to do it with a different offensive line every week? What a nightmare. Sure, they have weapons on offense. And yes, despite the inept O line, I think the offense will score a lot of points. But….they will still have NO run game, and their defense is a major question mark at best.
Since letting Eagle legend, Brian Dawkins, walk and sign with the Broncos, the Eagles have tried unsuccessfully to plug in the void that Dawkins left behind. They finally think they’ve been able to do so after drafting Nate Allen with the 37th overall pick (received in the McNabb trade), but that’s a lot of pressure to put on a rookie safety. I don’t doubt the kid’s talent level, but this is a tough defense to learn and he’s going to need some time.
Simply put, the Eagles have way too many holes on defense. Their secondary can’t tackle, and besides Samuel, they can’t cover all that well, either. Getting Bradley back should provide a major boost, and top pick Brandon Graham has impressed everyone at camp so far. But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re still light years behind the (god I hate to say it) Cowboys. Gun to my head, I say the Eagles finish third at best and win 7-8 games.
Philly fans got the major change they wanted when McNabb was shipped to Washington. But be careful what you wish for, this could be a dreadfully long season for the birds’ faithful.

When the Philadelphia Eagles acquired Michael Vick, it was met with a lot of publicity. Much of that publicity was negative. Seen as a criminal, many did not believe that he deserved a chance. And last season, many thought that Philadelphia was not properly using him.
With a hefty salary and a new heap of trouble, many Eagles fans are wishing for his release. There are other serviceable backup quarterbacks on the free agent market. However, the Eagles should not release Vick. What if Kolb gets injured? What if he stinks up the joint? Vick at least has experience at starting quarterback, even if he has more recent experience in prison.
He is exciting, and is still a fun player to watch. Yes, football is not all fun, but fun may be a huge factor in the upcoming season if the Eagles played mediocre football like they may. Vick provides excitement, and now that he has playing time under his belt, and a full training camp to prepare, the Eagles should not pull the trigger and release Vick. If they stuck with him this long, there is no point in ending it now.

Shawn Andrews’ star-crossed career in Philadelphia is over.
The Eagles released the former All-Pro right guard on Wednesday in a move that was expected. Andrews, who missed the 2008 training camp because of depression, has played in just two games the past two years because of back injuries.
“We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was in Philadelphia,” coach Andy Reid said in a statement. “We have, however, decided to move in another direction.”
Andrews wrote “Bye, Bye Birds” on his Twitter page. He also said he plans to continue playing.

Dick Jauron is back in the NFL.
The former Bills head coach was hired Wednesday by the Philadelphia Eagles as a senior assistant/defensive backs coach.
“Long before he became a defensive coordinator and head coach in this league, Dick Jauron was considered to be one of, if not the best defensive backs coaches in the game,” Eagles head coach Andy Reid said. “We welcome his experience and knowledge of the game and look forward to adding him to our defensive coaching staff.”
Jauron replaces Brian Stewart, who left after one season to become defensive coordinator at the University of Houston. Jauron was fired by the Bills in November after a 3-6 start. He was 24-33 in Buffalo in three-plus seasons.
Jauron was 35-46 as Chicago’s coach from 1999 to 2003, and 1-4 as Detroit’s interim coach in 2005. Jauron previously worked with Reid in Green Bay on Mike Holmgren’s staff in the early 1990s.

While players around him were constantly shuffled in and out, Jamaal Jackson held the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line together.
Now the Eagles have lost their anchor.
Jackson will miss the rest of the season after tearing a knee ligament in Sunday’s win over Denver.
“It’s obviously a big loss. He’s a good football player,” coach Andy Reid said Monday.
Jackson made his 71st consecutive start against the Broncos and had been Philadelphia’s only offensive player to play every snap until he got hurt in the first half.
He had an MRI exam on Monday that revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It’s an injury that sometimes takes a full year for recovery, so Jackson may not be ready for the start of next season.
“I don’t want to take anything away from losing Jamaal,” Reid said. “But at the same time, we’re fortunate enough to have guys that have played in games, and big games, that we can fill in those spots.”

The chilling news came down not long after Donovan McNabb took aim at rookie running back LeSean McCoy and fired incomplete on third down from the San Diego 7-yard line for the Eagles’ third straight red-zone failure.
Everyone in the press box was wondering where Brian Westbrook was on that play.
The answer came when an announcement was made that he had been removed from the eventual 31-23 loss to the Chargers because of a concussion.
Because this was his first game back since being knocked unconscious in a win at Washington on Oct. 26, it set off alarms everywhere.
Afterward, coach Andy Reid was asked if this latest setback was career-threatening for Westbrook.

I had a feeling Steve Smith’s saying he expects to be “wide open” down the field on Sunday wouldn’t sit well with the Eagles’ corners and I was right about that.
“But we blitz,” Eagles corner Sheldon Brown told CSNPhilly.com Thursday. “The ball’s got to come out quick. It doesn’t matter who’s open. If the quarterback can’t throw the ball, it doesn’t really matter.”
Apparently, “open” is a relative term for Brown.
“I’m sure a lot of people say that on film,” Brown said. “I could be open 25, 30 yards down the field, but if the quarterback is sacked, then you’re not open.”
What Brown means is the Eagles’ corners often cover based on the time they believe the quarterback will have to throw. So if they know a zero blitz (no deep safety) is coming, they won’t bother to respect the deep ball because they believe there’s no chance the quarterback will have time to throw it.
It’s a gamble that allows them to grab extra interceptions. And it must be working because Brown and Asante Samuel have combined for seven INTs (four for Samuel, three for Brown), which is the most among a starting duo of corners in the NFL this season.
“I’m not going to tell you why we do what we do, but we’ve got a lot of picks,” Brown said. “So we aren’t to cover people that we shouldn’t be covering? It doesn’t make sense. … As long as the boys up front are getting pressure, then we play what we see. That’s the only thing that matters.”

Concerned over their depth at running back with Bran Westbrook recovering from a concussion, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed P.J. Hill off the New Orleans Saints practice squad.
To make room on the 53-man roster for Hill, who was signed Tuesday, the Eagles placed linebacker Omar Gaither on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season. Gaither was hurt two weeks ago in the team’s loss to the Raiders and underwent surgery last week.
Hill, 5-foot-10, 218 pounds, was signed by the Saints as a rookie free agent out of Wisconsin. He had 26 carries for 128 yards, a 4.9 yards per carry average, and scored three touchdowns in the preseason.
